From barefoot runs on Mississippi's gravel roads to a Master's Degree, Mother Georgia Hale, or George Ann in Rollingfork, embodies resilience. Raised amidst nine siblings, she grasped responsibility early. Despite teenage motherhood, she excelled academically, graduating atop her 1974 class. A trailblazer, she became her family's first graduate, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans in 1989 and 2008, respectively. Her voice resonated in New Orleans' gospel scene with groups like Sisters In Christ and Rising Star Gospel Singers. As a social worker across Mississippi, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Louisiana, including for the New Orleans Police Department, she's a beacon of support for families and the elderly, finding fulfillment in her service.
The “Mississippi Project” is a short documentary about Georgia Hale and her siblings growing up on a plantation in rural Mississippi during the 1950’s - 1970’s.
Georgia gathers her family together to go back to the land where they once used to pick cotton and had no running water and toilet tissue. As Georgia is looking back through her history, she finds it is slowly being erased. Georgia decides to start telling her story orally, so it can be passed down to future generations and they remember their elders.
